Core Exchange Program
Tim’s Turbos offers a streamlined core exchange program for Porsche 930 3LDZ turbochargers. Send us your buildable core, and we’ll rebuild it to exacting specifications – or exchange it for a freshly rebuilt unit to get your 911 Turbo back on the road faster. All cores must be complete and rebuildable to qualify for the exchange program. Cores are evaluated upon arrival, and any additional core charges are assessed based on condition and rebuildability.

Breakdown and Cleaning
Your Porsche 930’s 3LDZ turbocharger is a legendary piece of engineering from the classic air-cooled era. We begin by marking the turbine rotation assembly before complete disassembly. Each component is carefully examined to determine the root cause of failure – whether it’s oil starvation, bearing wear, or compressor surge common to these air-cooled Porsche turbos. All reusable parts are thoroughly inspected and measured against original Porsche specifications.
Major castings are tumbled and de-burred, with all sharp edges smoothed. Oil galleries – critical to keeping your 930’s turbo alive – are meticulously cleared and hot tanked to remove the carbon buildup these cars are known for. Following initial inspection, all components undergo ultrasonic cleaning to ensure absolute cleanliness before reassembly.
The Rebuild
Every Tim’s Turbos 3LDZ core exchange rebuild includes new bearings, thrust bearings, seals, O-rings, piston rings, thrust components, and all necessary hardware specific to your Porsche application.
Assembly is blueprinted to exacting Porsche standards. The complete rotor group (compressor and turbine wheel) is precision-straightened and dynamically balanced using competition-grade equipment on our Cimat and TC3 balancing machines – exceeding factory specifications to deliver the boost your 930 was meant to produce. Finally, each rebuilt 3LDZ undergoes VSR testing to verify proper operation and that signature Porsche turbo spool before it’s ready for exchange.
